The SCIENCE of Weight Loss They Don't Tell You About
Two of the most fundamental and important aspects of weight loss and that are at the core of Slim by Science are these:
1. SATIETY
Satiety has EVERYTHING to do with how much we eat! Not eating enough satiating foods can naturally result in overeating...
If we try to endure being hungry and force ourselves to eat less, what happens when we finally give in...? No one can be hungry forever!
So instead of focusing on the amount of food we eat, let's focus on eating satiating foods so that we may feel great AND naturally eat just the right amount! Though note that our satiety is also influenced by our metabolism and whether or not we have access to our body-fat stores...
2. HAVING ACCESS TO OUR BODY-FAT
In order to lose excess fat it's CRITICAL that we are able to burn body-fat as fuel. HOWEVER:
Our body-fat is not always made available...
We can think of our body-fat as being stored in a chamber that can often be locked due to high levels of a specific hormone called insulin. So to be able to access our body-fat at these times, we need the key to the chamber! And WHAT we eat influences whether we find the key.
You see, some of the nutrients from the food we eat will enter our cells and make their way to a part of our cells called the Mitochondria. And depending on the type of nutrients that enter, a certain amount of a type of tiny yet powerful molecule called Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS for short) is produced. ROS is a type of signalling molecule and we can think of it as the key to unlock the chambers where our fat is stored because if our cells produce enough ROS, it can signal to the cells to temporarily let us access our body-fat even when there's insulin present!
One of the main reasons people go low-carb is due to how insulin may block us from accessing our body-fat. However, if we can use ROS to help us access our body-fat even in the presence of insulin, it may open up possibilities with respect to our diet even while trying to lose weight!
Actually, ROS is often portrayed as a dangerous molecule, though it's truly a critical one - and often completely overlooked when it comes to weight loss!
In fact, even so-called "healthy" foods may contain a lot of one specific nutrient that when processed in the Mitochondria results in LESS ROS, which means we may not be able to access our body fat! Ouch... Basically, even foods claimed to be healthy and that are often part of other weight loss diets may make it more difficult to lose weight!
Of course, knowing the SCIENCE, we can use this to our advantage by avoiding those foods and instead focus on foods that may even HELP us get the key!

Or maybe our instincts are trying to tell us something?
